How to show you care when someone is diagnosed with CANCER...
I recently had an order request from a customer who needed something special for her friend who has breast cancer. I, of course was honoured that I was trusted to produce something for someone going through a very difficult time. A keepsake card was ready to be designed!
My first thoughts was the card needed to give the recipient
- Strength
- Positivity
How can one card do that? Simple! It's all about the words / quote... If we get that right it will touch the heart of the recipient and connect them together through this truly difficult time and without having to verbally say a thing!
Not only will the card say so much, the sender will have two pages inside to write anything they need too.
I have personally, lost someone I loved very much to cancer, a person I thought at the time that I'd be with forever! I remember everything in great detail, the day of being told in the hospital, the day he had to brave getting his hair all shaved, the day of the operation, and many more vivid memories as though its magnified in memory. In addition to this, I also remember the struggles people who cared for him had outside the immediate people, thoughts probably swirling in their head...
- How should I react? Should I talk about it?
- Should I ignore it?
- Should I avoid?
With age, we become wiser and I understand more about how people act to such news. It's not that they don't care, they just don't know how to either express themselves or deal with such a situation. They don't want to sound insensitive or stupid so commonly people will avoid! Please don't avoid... A simple gesture can say a thousand words...
Which is why I am currently designing a range of cards that will connect to someone dealing with cancer. This will be coming to the website very soon and I will keep you posted!
Here is an example of a card front I recently made...
In addition to my products...
Whether you are a spouse, child, sibling, parent, or friend of a cancer patient, it is important that you never stop expressing your love. Showing how much you care is not only important on holidays and special occasions. It should be done every day of the year. You don't have to spend a lot of money, effort, or time showing someone you love him or her, either. There are so many simple and special ways to show a cancer patient that you care.
Here are some OTHER ways to show you care:
-
Write them a powerful letter full of love and hope.
-
Take care of some of their responsibilities (for example, watch their kids, do their laundry, cook them dinner, or go shopping for them).
-
Call often to remind them how much you love them and how you are always thinking of them.
-
When you visit, bring a book to read aloud or a movie to watch together.
-
Bring them pictures of your times together and hang them where they can be viewed all the time.
-
Spend time reminiscing about the fun times that you've shared (as children, in school or college, or on vacations). Remind him or her that there will be more good times in the future
